Overview

This project involved building a web application that captured readings from a physical biosensor, transferred the incoming data to a computer and displayed the measurements through a live monitoring interface.

The platform allowed users to initiate recording sessions, observe incoming readings in real time and later review results through charts, metrics and historical comparisons.

My work extended beyond the visible dashboard. It covered the complete path from sensor to screen: establishing communication with the device, receiving and processing its readings, managing live application state and presenting the resulting data in a clear and usable format.

Development Challenges

Real-time sensor applications introduce challenges that do not exist in standard web platforms.

The application needed to receive a continuous stream of physical measurements, interpret the incoming data correctly and update the interface without introducing noticeable delays or inconsistencies.

The system also had to distinguish between live sessions, individual results and long-term historical data. Users needed to understand the information quickly, even when the underlying measurements were highly technical.

Additional challenges included handling interruptions during a session, maintaining synchronisation between the device and interface, calculating derived metrics and presenting comparisons through charts without overwhelming the user.

Development Approach

The platform was developed as a data-driven web application with separate views for live sessions, results and history.

The implementation included:

  • Communication between the physical sensor and computer

  • Real-time data acquisition

  • Processing and interpretation of incoming readings

  • Live visual feedback during recording sessions

  • Session controls and progress tracking

  • Individual result dashboards

  • Historical data comparisons

  • Interactive charts and performance metrics

  • Patient and session management

  • CSV and PDF export functionality

  • Testing across the complete sensor-to-interface workflow

The interface was designed to turn a stream of technical sensor information into visual feedback that could be understood and acted upon more easily.

Outcome

The completed workflow successfully brought real-time biosensor readings into a browser-based monitoring experience.

Users could begin a session, observe measurements as they arrived, review the resulting metrics and compare performance across previous sessions.

For me, the project was especially valuable because it combined hardware communication, real-time data handling, application logic and user-interface development within one connected system. It was not merely a dashboard—it was the digital layer between a physical device and the person interpreting its data.
